After the conflict between China and Tibet in 1959, Chandragiri village served as a Tibetan settler's home, and it was designated as camp No. 4 for Tibetan settlement.

On May 1, 1963, the first batch of Tibetans arrived at Chandragiri. Since their arrival, they have not only made Chandragiri and started some adjoining camps at Labarasingh, Mahendragadh, and Tankilipadar (all located within a 4-5 kilometer radius of Chandragiri). They have also added color to the picturesque mountains of the Eastern Ghats in this part of Odisha through their enterprise and demeanor. They named this place as Phuntsokling, a Tibetan word that means a land of pleasure and happiness.
