Saraswati Puja (Odia: ସରସ୍ୱତୀ ପୂଜା) or Basanta Panchami (ବସନ୍ତ ପଞ୍ଚମୀ) is a Hindu festival celebrated on the fifth day of the traditional Odia calendar month of Magha, which normally occurs in January or February.
This festival, like Ganesha Puja, is observed in every school in Odisha. Many people worship Maa Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of learning, arts, and music.
She is honoured with trips to her temples, music, and the day when parents sit down with their children and teach them how to write letters of the alphabet or study together. So, on this day, the tiny children begin their studies, which is called as Khadi Chhuan (ଖଡ଼ି ଛୁଆଁ) in Odia.
