This holy day is celebrated in Odisha as Panchaka or Panchuka. On this day, people of Odisha worship the boita or small sips as Boita Bandana. As per ancient history, the businessmen from Odisha used to travel to different islands like Java, Sumatra, Bali, Indonesia, etc on this auspicious day.
The Kartika Purnima is also known as Deva Deepavali. This day is the birthday of Matsya Avatara, god Vishnu's fish-incarnation. It is also the birthday of Maa Brundabati, the personification of the Tulsi plant. The elder son of Lord Shiva, Kartikeya who is the god of war also born on this day.
